The trustees of Scottish cricket charity, Beyond Boundaries, have pledged to trek the distance to Dubai to raise funds for activity camps across Scotland for disadvantaged and under-represented children and young people.
With the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup rescheduled to take place in Dubai and Oman in October, when the Scotland Men’s team will be representing the country 4,000 miles away, the charity concluded it was a good opportunity to raise much-needed money to support Scottish local community cricket initiatives. The Trustees are calling on all sports supporters, clubs and individuals to support their pledge.
Over just four months, until 18 October when the tournament is scheduled to start, the eight trustees will walk, run, cycle, swim or row the distance from Scotland to Dubai, with the aim of raising a pound per mile for its charitable work. Funds are being raised via a Just Giving page and all donations are welcome.
Chair, Keith Wilson comments: “The exercise required to complete our Trek will help our trustees support the work we fund which brings cricket to more disadvantaged people, with a focus on inclusivity. If it helps us to help anyone in Scotland, regardless of race, gender, ability or age, to push beyond their boundaries, then our efforts will have been worthwhile.
“We have seen the situation in India which is devastating and our thoughts are with those affected by the disaster, while we hope recovery will come and our games will go ahead.”
Beyond Boundaries transforms lives in Scotland through funding programmes such as tournaments and camps which bring cricket, in all its forms, to young, disadvantaged and underrepresented people. It welcomes applications from clubs, individuals and groups for support for events and initiatives such as summer camps, coaching sessions and community outreach.
Beyond Boundaries sponsorships include: the Disability Cricket programme with Cricket Scotland; community summer camps in disadvantaged areas in Edinburgh and Glasgow; the Beyond Boundaries women and girls cricket T20 tournament; and individual requests for need.
